A relaxed, walkable plan for three days in Vancouver — the seawall, the mountains, the market and a day trip, mapped out so you see the best without rushing.
Three days is the sweet spot for a first trip to Vancouver — long enough to cover the icons at a human pace, short enough to keep the energy up. This plan keeps you mostly on foot and transit (skip the rental car), balances free highlights with a couple of paid ones, and leaves room to wander. Base yourself downtown, in the West End or Yaletown and you can walk to most of Day 1.
📅 Day 1 — The Waterfront & Stanley Park
Start with the city's signature experience. Rent a bike near the Georgia Street entrance and ride the Stanley Park seawall loop (8.8 km, flat, ~1 hour with stops) past the totem poles at Brockton Point and Siwash Rock. Afterwards, walk down to English Bay or Second Beach.
Morning: Stanley Park seawall by bike, totem poles, Siwash Rock.
Afternoon: Coal Harbour walk to Canada Place and the Gastown steam clock; lunch in Gastown.
Evening: Sunset at English Bay (~9 PM in summer), dinner on Denman or Robson Street.
💡 Local tip
Do the seawall before 10 AM or after 6 PM in summer — midday is a slow parade. Golden hour at Siwash Rock is the postcard shot.
📅 Day 2 — Granville Island & the Mountains
Take the little Aquabus ferry across False Creek to Granville Island Public Market for fresh food and coffee, then head north for a mountain view.
Morning: Granville Island Public Market, artisan shops, waterfront.
Afternoon: Capilano Suspension Bridge (paid) or the free Lynn Canyon suspension bridge; or ride the Grouse Mountain Skyride for city-and-ocean views.
Evening: Dinner on Commercial Drive or in Kitsilano; sunset at Kits Beach.
🌉 Capilano vs Lynn Canyon
Capilano — bigger, polished, ~$66
Lynn Canyon — free, wilder, fewer crowds
🚡 Grouse Mountain
Skyride + alpine views, wildlife refuge
Or hike the Grouse Grind (free, steep)
📅 Day 3 — Neighbourhoods, Beaches or a Day Trip
Day 3 is your flex day. Slow down into the neighbourhoods, or use it as a springboard for a day trip.
Stay in the city: explore local neighbourhoods — Commercial Drive, Main Street, Chinatown — and relax on Kitsilano or Jericho Beach.
Day trip: Whistler (~2 h up the Sea-to-Sky Highway) or Victoria (ferry + BC Parliament and Butchart Gardens).
