The first month, in the order that actually matters
Newcomers lose weeks to the wrong sequence — applying for jobs before the paperwork that lets an employer hire them exists. This is the order that works in British Columbia.
- Social Insurance Number first. Nobody can put you on payroll without it, and it is issued quickly with the right documents.
- A Canadian bank account and a local mobile number. A foreign number on a resume gets skipped.
- A one-page Canadian-format resume. No photo, no age, no marital status, no SIN — including them marks the document as foreign and some employers will not touch it for legal reasons.
