Vancouver to Whistler: Bus, Shuttle or Drive (2026 Guide)
Published 2026-07-12 ยท FanVancouver Local Desk
Whistler is 120 km north of Vancouver along the Sea-to-Sky Highway โ one of the most scenic drives in North America. There is no train; your options are bus, shuttle, rental car, or (in winter) direct ski shuttles from the airport.
1๏ธโฃ Option 1: Bus / shuttle (most visitors)
- Skylynx โ the main scheduled service, from YVR airport and downtown Vancouver; roughly $30-60 one-way depending on season and departure point, ~2h from downtown, ~2.5h from YVR. Book online, buses fill on winter weekends.
- Epic Rides โ budget favourite from downtown, often $25-35 one-way, fewer departures.
- Winter ski-season shuttles add early-morning departures aimed at day-trippers.
2๏ธโฃ Option 2: Rental car
~1.5-2h from downtown without traffic. The Sea-to-Sky is fully divided highway with pullouts at Porteau Cove, Shannon Falls and the Sea-to-Sky Gondola โ worth stopping. October 1 โ April 30 winter tires are legally required on this highway; confirm your rental has them. Parking in Whistler Village runs $10-30/day (some lots free in summer).
3๏ธโฃ Option 3: Not worth it
Taxis/rideshare quote $200-300+ one-way. The floatplane and helicopter options are scenic splurges, not transport.
โ Which to pick
- Ski trip, no other plans: bus โ no winter driving, no parking fees.
- Summer with stops (Squamish, gondola, lakes): rental car wins clearly.
- Straight from a YVR landing: Skylynx direct from the airport, skip downtown entirely.
