Celebration of Light 2026: Fireworks Dates, Best Viewing Spots & Tips
Published 2026-07-12 ยท FanVancouver Local Desk
The Honda Celebration of Light is the world's longest-running offshore fireworks competition: three nations, three Saturday-and-Wednesday summer nights, each firing a 25-minute choreographed show from a barge in English Bay while 300,000+ people line the shores. It is free, enormous, and very much worth planning around.
๐ 2026 dates and format
The event traditionally runs on three nights in late July, with shows starting at 10pm sharp. Each competing country pairs its pyrotechnics to a soundtrack simulcast on local radio โ bring a phone and earbuds and stream it for the full effect.
๐ Best viewing spots, ranked
- English Bay Beach โ ground zero, best view, biggest crowd; claim sand by 6pm
- Kitsilano Beach โ across the water, nearly as good, noticeably more room
- Vanier Park / Hadden Park โ the local favourite balance of view and space
- Second Beach, Stanley Park โ angled view, easy exit into the park afterward
- Jericho Beach โ distant but calm; bring a blanket and make it a picnic
๐ก Survival tips
- Transit only โ roads into the West End close and parking is hopeless; walk, bike, or bus
- The 30-60 minutes after the finale is the crush: linger on the beach and let the crowd drain
- Downtown restaurants fill by 7pm on show nights; book ahead or picnic
- Bring layers โ English Bay gets cool after sunset even in July
๐ Make a full evening of it
Arrive late afternoon, swim or rent a kayak at English Bay, get takeaway from Denman Street, and watch the sky go from sunset to show. It is the single best free evening Vancouver offers all year.
