Smoke days are not “just haze”
Even when Vancouver is far from flame, Interior plumes can trash ridge hikes, outdoor tickets, and lungs. Check AQHI before you climb Grouse or drive the Sea-to-Sky for “the view.”
Visitor playbook
- Swap alpine for indoor museums, markets, and seawall only if AQHI is acceptable for your group.
- Sensitive groups (kids, elders, asthma): cut outdoor exertion; consider a well-fitted respirator outdoors.
- Flights from YVR rarely cancel for typical smoke — floatplanes are more sensitive.
- Track fires on our live map so you know which Interior corridors are feeding the plume.
