What Astra Lumina actually is

Astra Lumina is a self-guided night walk from Moment Factory, the Montreal studio behind the Lumina Night Walk series. It isn't a holiday-lights loop. The route tells a story about the night sky across nine zones of light installations, projections, 360-degree immersion and set pieces, all tied together by an original soundtrack. The organisers say earlier editions in five U.S. cities drew more than two million visitors.

It runs from 22 October to 31 December, so the first weeks overlap with Halloween and the last ones with the Christmas holidays. Weekend evenings and the run-up to Christmas will be the busiest, so if your dates are fixed, book a slot on the official site rather than counting on the gate.

Where it is and how to get there

The walk starts at 690 Pipeline Road, on the site of the Stanley Park miniature railway. The train itself isn't running in 2026, and older listings for the Ghost Train or Bright Nights here are out of date. Our Halloween 2026 guide and Christmas lights guide say where those events went.

  • Bus: TransLink route 19 ends at Stanley Park Loop, a short walk from the entrance. Check evening frequency in the TransLink trip planner.
  • Car: There's limited paid parking on site, and it's likely to be tight on Friday and Saturday evenings. Rates are in our Stanley Park parking guide.
  • On foot: From Denman and West Georgia it's roughly a 15–20 minute walk past Lost Lagoon. Paths inside the park are dark after sunset.

Tickets and prices for 2026

Prices change by date and time slot. Adult tickets (13+) for a set date start at $27.20. The flexible Any Day–Any Time ticket is $39.90 for adults and $29.90 for children aged 4–12. Seniors (65+), students and military pay $32.90 with valid ID. The family bundle (at least three tickets, no more than two adults) is $32.90 a ticket, and groups of eight or more pay $34.90 a ticket. Fever adds a booking fee of about 5%, which is $2.00 on a $39.90 ticket. Children under 4 get in free.

On the flexible ticket, two adults and two children aged 4–12 come to $139.60 before fees. The family bundle brings that to $131.60, and set-date tickets on quieter nights can cost less. Two add-ons are sold separately, and neither includes entry or parking: the Celestial Package ($35, an Astra Lumina tumbler with a drink) and the Snuggle Package ($55, a blanket). There is an onsite box office, but the organisers recommend booking ahead, especially for Friday and Saturday evenings.

Read the conditions before you pay. There are no refunds. Where the option is enabled, you can change the date in the Fever app up to 48 hours before your slot, and you can transfer tickets to someone else for free. Every guest must complete a liability waiver in advance and show proof at check-in. The QR code is in the app and the confirmation email, so there's nothing to print.

Is it worth it, and is it good for kids?

It's a good pick if you want an evening plan on a wet night that isn't a bar or a cinema. It runs rain or shine, takes under an hour and is minutes from the West End. It's less of a draw if you've already done a Lumina walk elsewhere, because it's the same studio and the same format. For more ideas, see rainy-day plans and date ideas.

The organisers recommend it for ages 4 and up, because of the night walking and uneven ground. Strollers are allowed, but some dirt paths are narrow and bumpy, so a carrier is easier for toddlers. Service dogs are welcome, but pets are not.

Before you go: rules and practical tips

  • Dress for rain: The walk runs rain or shine, and there's no coat check. Waterproof shoes matter more than an umbrella.
  • Waiver and timing: Fill in the liability waiver before you leave home and arrive 15 minutes before your slot.
  • Light-sensitive? Some zones use strong flickering or strobe lighting and heavy fog effects.
  • It's dark early: Sunset is around 6 pm in late October and just after 4 pm in December, so even the earliest visits are fully dark.
  • Photos: Phones are fine. Flash and professional equipment are not allowed.
  • Food and drink: Snacks and drinks are sold on site. Outside food, alcohol, smoking and vaping are not allowed.
  • Dinner nearby: The Teahouse at Ferguson Point and Prospect Point Bar & Grill are inside the park, but check their winter evening hours. Denman Street has plenty of cheaper options.
  • Make a day of it: See the Stanley Park guide in daylight, then check what's on tonight or things to do in November.
