Downtown Vancouver to Capilano & Grouse Mountain Without a Car

The two big North Shore attractions are 10 minutes apart, and both are easy without a car — one even runs a free shuttle.

🌉 Capilano Suspension Bridge: free shuttle

Capilano runs a free shuttle from Canada Place (and a couple of downtown hotel stops) roughly every 15-30 minutes in season. Show up, board, done — ~25 minutes. Your admission ticket (~$67 adult, cheaper online) is the only cost.

⛰ Grouse Mountain: SeaBus + bus

Waterfront Station → SeaBus (12 min across the harbour, a genuinely fun ride) → #236 bus from Lonsdale Quay to the Grouse base (~25 min). One regular transit fare (~$3.50, tap your credit card) covers the whole 45-minute trip. The Skyride gondola up the mountain is the ticket that costs money (~$75, or free with a Y2Play/annual pass).

🗓 Do both in one day

  1. Free shuttle from Canada Place to Capilano for opening time
  2. Bus #236 from the stop right outside Capilano up to Grouse (10 min, same fare system)
  3. Grouse afternoon, then #236 → Lonsdale Quay for dinner at the market → SeaBus back as the sun sets over the harbour

Free alternative: Lynn Canyon's suspension bridge costs nothing and is 20 minutes further east (bus #228/#227 from Lonsdale) — smaller but beautiful, and locals prefer it.

Ticket stacking and rain pivots

Buying both Capilano and Grouse full-price tickets on a short trip rarely feels worth it unless one visit is a must-photo and the other is a ski or Skyride priority. Many locals send first-time visitors to one paid mountain experience plus free canyon or seawall time.

  • Rain: Capilano boardwalks are still usable with a shell; views shrink. Grouse may sit in cloud — check webcams.
  • Smoke days: alpine views disappoint; switch to indoor city plans.
  • Food: cafeteria pricing on-mountain is high; eat in North Van or downtown before you ascend.

Lions Gate Bridge delays cascade into rideshare ETAs — leave a 20-minute cushion for timed entries.

FAQ

Questions travellers ask most

Is it possible to visit both attractions in a single day? +

Absolutely! The close proximity of Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and Grouse Mountain, coupled with efficient transport options, makes a combined day trip not only feasible but highly recommended. Many visitors choose to experience both, enjoying the rainforest canopy walk and suspension bridge before ascending Grouse Mountain for its great views and summit activities, especially during longer summer days.

What should I wear for a visit to these attractions? +

Layering is key for both Capilano and Grouse Mountain, regardless of the season. Even on a warm day, the forest can be cooler, and the mountain summit will almost certainly be chillier and potentially windier than downtown. Comfortable walking shoes are essential, as you'll be on your feet exploring. Rain gear is always a wise addition in Vancouver, just in case!

Are there dining options available at Capilano and Grouse Mountain? +

Yes, both attractions offer a range of dining experiences to suit various tastes and budgets. Capilano Suspension Bridge Park has cafes and casual eateries, perfect for a snack or light meal amidst the trees. Grouse Mountain is home to several restaurants, from casual grab-and-go options to more formal dining with spectacular views, allowing you to refuel and relax while enjoying the mountain air.
