Sydney is the usual origin; Melbourne and Brisbane connect. If a YVR nonstop is on sale, take it — the LAX/SFO connection adds a border you do not need. Land, Canada Line, shower, seawall.
What to do first
You already know beaches. Come for mountains-next-to-the-city and Stanley Park’s seawall. Whistler is a separate overnight, not a day trip after a 14-hour flight.
