Six hours from Mexico City and almost no time change — Vancouver is one of the few North American cities you can visit for four days without losing two of them to jet lag. You are not coming for heat; you are coming for mountains, ocean and a city you can walk in summer.
How to get here

What to do first

Getting here
Mexico City to Vancouver is about six hours nonstop over roughly 3,950 km, and it is a genuinely competitive route: Aeroméxico, Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge and Flair all fly it year-round, which keeps fares honest. Guadalajara, Monterrey and Cancún connect through Mexico City or a US hub.
Because Mexico stopped observing daylight saving in 2022, the gap shifts with our clocks rather than yours: Mexico City is one hour ahead of Vancouver from March to November and two hours ahead over the winter. Either way there is almost no jet lag, which makes a four-day trip realistic in a way it never is from Europe.
From YVR to downtown
From YVR the Canada Line reaches downtown in about 26 minutes. Weekdays before 6:30 p.m. it is a two-zone fare — CAD 4.20 plus TransLink's CAD 6.50 airport AddFare, CAD 10.70 in total. Evenings, weekends and statutory holidays the network charges one zone, so CAD 9.35. There is no AddFare on the trip back out to the airport. Taxis run a flat CAD 36 to downtown rather than a meter.
Paperwork, money and plugs
This is the part that changed, and it is the single most important thing on this page. Since 29 February 2024 a Mexican passport alone is no longer enough to travel to Canada visa-free. You can apply for an eTA — CAD 7, valid five years or until the passport expires — only if you are flying, hold a valid Mexican passport, and either hold a valid US non-immigrant visa or have held a Canadian visitor visa at some point in the previous ten years. If neither applies, you need a full visitor visa (TRV), and a visa is required for everyone arriving by land or sea regardless of the rest.
Apply on the official Government of Canada site. TRV processing is measured in weeks and biometrics may be required, so this is the first thing to arrange and not the last. Sockets and voltage match Mexico closely enough that nothing needs an adapter. Two habits to unlearn: shelf and menu prices exclude tax (5% federal plus 7% provincial, added at the till) and tipping runs 15 to 20%.
Your first day
Vancouver is colder than almost anyone from Mexico expects, including in July: daytime highs sit in the low twenties and an evening by the water genuinely needs a jacket. Pack one layer more than the forecast suggests. Spanish is widely spoken in hospitality downtown, and our Spanish-language guides cover the same ground as the English ones. When to come
June through September is the dry window and the only time the mountains are reliably clear. For skiing, January and February are the target: Whistler is two hours north and the transport guide covers getting there without a car. Vancouver is expensive next to Mexico City, especially restaurants — the cheap breakfast guide and the weekly grocery deals close some of the gap.
