Facials, brows, lashes and waxing are the busiest bookings in the city between May and September, and they are the services with the widest price spread — a facial in Metro Vancouver runs from a $45 express treatment in a neighbourhood studio to well over $200 in a downtown clinic with a machine for every step.

Every figure is the lowest price published by that salon in July 2026, before 5% GST and tip. Medical-grade treatments — microneedling, chemical peels, laser — sit above these ranges and belong to clinics rather than salons.

What you are paying for in a facial

The honest breakdown is time and extraction. A 30-minute express facial is a cleanse, a mask and moisturiser. A 60- to 90-minute treatment adds proper steam, manual extractions, massage and a targeted serum, and it is the one that makes a visible difference for congested skin. Anything described as “signature” is the salon’s own combination — ask what is actually in it before assuming it is the premium option.

Brows and lashes

Brow shaping in Vancouver splits between waxing and threading, and threading dominates in Richmond, on Kingsway and around Metrotown — it is cheaper, faster and gentler on skin using retinoids. Tinting adds around $15–$25 and lasts three to four weeks. Lamination sits higher again and holds six to eight weeks.

Lash extensions are priced by set, and the full set is only half the cost of ownership: fills every two to three weeks are what keeps them, and skipping them means paying for a full set again. Classic sets are the cheapest and most durable; volume and hybrid sets cost more and need a technician with real training. Ask how long the appointment is booked for — a full set done properly takes two hours or more, and anything much faster is a corner being cut.

Waxing, plainly

Hair needs about a quarter-inch of growth, roughly two weeks, for wax to grip. Take an ibuprofen half an hour before a first Brazilian, skip caffeine, and do not book it the day after a long flight when skin is dry. Hard wax is standard for intimate areas in Vancouver studios and is less painful than strip wax; if a studio uses strip wax everywhere, that is a fair question to ask. Redness for a few hours is normal, bruising is not.

Tax and tipping, so the bill holds no surprises

Personal grooming services in British Columbia carry 5% GST and no PST — a $45 haircut rings up at $47.25 before you decide on a tip. Retail products you take home (shampoo, polish, aftercare) are a different line: those carry GST and 7% PST. Treatment by a registered massage therapist is the exception in the other direction — it is a health service and carries no GST at all.

Tipping runs 15–20% on the pre-tax total, and it is genuinely expected here. Round up rather than down for a stylist who fixed someone else’s colour, and tip the assistant who washed your hair separately if there was one — $5 in hand is normal. Card terminals will suggest 18/20/25%; the middle button is the local default, not the minimum. Cash is still welcome and, in small independent shops, still preferred.

How booking works here

Most Metro Vancouver salons run on a booking app — Fresha, Vagaro, Booksy or Square — rather than a phone line that someone answers mid-blow-dry. Book online if the option exists; you will see the actual stylist, the actual service length and, more often than not, the actual price. Colour work needs one to two weeks’ notice, and appointments with a specific senior stylist can run three weeks out. A basic cut is usually available within a few days.

Walk-ins still exist, mostly at barbershops on Commercial Drive, in Gastown and along Kingsway, and they are busiest between 4pm and 7pm on weekdays and all day Saturday. Late morning on a weekday is the quietest hour in almost every shop in the city.

Cancellation policies are real and enforced: 24 hours is the common line, and a no-show for a long colour or lash appointment is often charged at 50% or the full price. If you booked with a card on file, assume it will be used.
