Vancouver has more nail studios per block than almost any Canadian city, and the spread in price and hygiene between them is wide. The listings below are addresses and hours; the part worth reading first is what things cost and how to tell a clean salon from a fast one.

These are starting prices published by the salons themselves in July 2026, before 5% GST and tip. Add roughly $10–$20 for nail art beyond a single accent, $5–$15 for gel removal if you are arriving with someone else’s set on, and expect a French finish to be a separate charge almost everywhere.

How to read a nail salon in thirty seconds

Regional health authorities — Vancouver Coastal Health here, Fraser Health east of Boundary Road — inspect nail salons as personal service establishments, and the standards are not subtle. What you can check yourself, before you sit:

• Metal tools come out of a sealed pouch in front of you, or out of an autoclave. Loose tools in a drawer are the single clearest warning sign.
• Files, buffers and pumice are single-use. They are porous and cannot be disinfected. A good salon hands them to you at the end or throws them out.
• Pedicure basins are lined or pipe-free and wiped down between clients.
• No methyl methacrylate. MMA is prohibited in nail products in Canada; if a liquid smells sharply of acrylic fumes and the set is impossible to lift, walk out.
• Ventilation you can feel. A room that makes your eyes water is a room the technician breathes in all day.

What to book, depending on what you need

A regular manicure lasts three to five days and is the right choice before a single event. Gel or shellac holds two to three weeks and needs proper soak-off removal, not peeling — budget the removal fee into the real cost. Acrylic or hard gel extensions need a fill every two to three weeks; the fill, not the full set, is the number that matters over a year. Dip powder sits between the two on price and should always be applied from a decanted pot, never by dunking your finger into the shared jar.

Tax and tipping, so the bill holds no surprises

Personal grooming services in British Columbia carry 5% GST and no PST — a $45 haircut rings up at $47.25 before you decide on a tip. Retail products you take home (shampoo, polish, aftercare) are a different line: those carry GST and 7% PST. Treatment by a registered massage therapist is the exception in the other direction — it is a health service and carries no GST at all.

Tipping runs 15–20% on the pre-tax total, and it is genuinely expected here. Round up rather than down for a stylist who fixed someone else’s colour, and tip the assistant who washed your hair separately if there was one — $5 in hand is normal. Card terminals will suggest 18/20/25%; the middle button is the local default, not the minimum. Cash is still welcome and, in small independent shops, still preferred.

How booking works here

Most Metro Vancouver salons run on a booking app — Fresha, Vagaro, Booksy or Square — rather than a phone line that someone answers mid-blow-dry. Book online if the option exists; you will see the actual stylist, the actual service length and, more often than not, the actual price. Colour work needs one to two weeks’ notice, and appointments with a specific senior stylist can run three weeks out. A basic cut is usually available within a few days.

Walk-ins still exist, mostly at barbershops on Commercial Drive, in Gastown and along Kingsway, and they are busiest between 4pm and 7pm on weekdays and all day Saturday. Late morning on a weekday is the quietest hour in almost every shop in the city.

Cancellation policies are real and enforced: 24 hours is the common line, and a no-show for a long colour or lash appointment is often charged at 50% or the full price. If you booked with a card on file, assume it will be used.
