Labour Day weekend 2026 is Saturday 5 September through Monday 7 September. For visitors it is the last long weekend of summer: PNE still running, patios full, and — this year — wildfire smoke still in the conversation. What is actually on
- PNE Fair — Hastings Park. The fair is open Saturday 5, Sunday 6 and Labour Day Monday 7 September (those two dark Mondays were 24 and 31 August). Last three days are the crush: buy tickets online, skip the car, use the R5. Visitor version: PNE Fair 2026.
- Richmond Night Market — its final season ever; after 26 years the market closes for good after 20 September. A calmer evening than the PNE midway. Night market guide.
- Fringe Patio — free music on Granville Island 5–20 September (ticketed shows 10–20). Confirm on vancouverfringe.com.
- Beaches and seawall — Kits and English Bay fill early Monday. Go before 10am or skip the parking lottery.
- Day trips — Whistler and Squamish highways jam Sunday evening. Leave Monday morning or stay the extra night.
Smoke, heat, and a Plan B
August–September 2026 is an active fire season. Before you book a hike, open the live BC wildfire map and the smoke / AQHI guide. Indoor Plan B: Granville Island market, UBC Museum of Anthropology, science world, or a matinee — same weekend, no smoke in your lungs.
