PNE Fair 2026 Vancouver: Dates, Tickets & First-Timer Tips

The PNE Fair is the last thing Vancouver does before summer ends — a 17-day agricultural fair, midway and concert series at Hastings Park in East Vancouver that has been running since 1910. In 2026 it opens Saturday, August 22 and closes on Labour Day Monday, September 7, open 11am to 11pm daily, and closed on Monday August 24 and Monday August 31. Those two dark Mondays catch people out every year.

What your ticket does and does not include

This is the single most misunderstood thing about the PNE. A Fair admission ticket gets you the grounds and the free programming: SuperDogs, the high dive show, agriculture barns, marketplace and home showcase, cooking demos, the Pyro Musical on selected nights, and the exhibits. That is a full day. It does not include Playland rides, and it does not include the ticketed Summer Night Concerts at the Freedom Mobile Arch (Blue Rodeo, Train, Sarah McLachlan and the rest of the 2026 billed lineup). Those concert tickets, bought on TicketLeader or at the Coliseum box office, include Fair admission — you do not buy both.

What it does not include is Playland. The rides are a separate ride pass, sold on its own or bundled with admission. If your children came for the roller coasters, buy the bundle before you arrive — the gate price is higher and the ticket line at 1pm on a Saturday is its own attraction.

Buy online. Gate prices are higher, and admission is tiered by day, so a weekday evening costs less than the Labour Day weekend.

Playland: what to ride and what to skip

The reason to go is the Wooden Coaster, built in 1958 and one of the oldest continuously operating wooden coasters in the world. It has no shoulder restraints, it is rougher than anything built since, and the drop out of the first turn genuinely lifts you off the seat. Ride it once at the start of the day and once after dark — it is a different experience with the lights on.

The rest of the park is a compact traditional midway: a few serious thrill rides, a lot of flat rides and a substantial children's section. Because the footprint is small, queue management matters more than at a big theme park. Do the two or three headline rides in the first hour after opening or in the last hour before close, and use the middle of the day for the shows and the barns.

The food, honestly

PNE mini donuts are not a marketing story — they are an actual Vancouver institution, made on site in a machine you can watch, sold hot in a paper bag, and worth queueing for once. Beyond that the midway is deep-fried novelty food priced for a fair, and it is fine to treat it as a spectacle rather than dinner. The agriculture and marketplace buildings usually have better and cheaper options than the midway, and the lines are shorter.

The parts adults come back for

• Summer Night Concerts — ticketed shows at the new Freedom Mobile Arch most evenings the fair is open. A concert ticket includes Fair admission; a Fair-only ticket does not include the concert. PNE’s own know-before-you-go page is the source. Buy ahead on TicketLeader; on-site sales are the Coliseum box office, not a free lawn.
• The agriculture barns — livestock, 4-H judging, the poultry building. This is the original reason the fair exists and it is the quietest, coolest place on the grounds at 2pm.
• The Prize Home — a full house built on site every year and given away by lottery. You can walk through it. It is a very Vancouver kind of absurd, given local property prices.
• The Pyro Musical — fireworks choreographed to music, on selected evenings, from inside the grounds.

Getting there without a car

Hastings Park sits at Hastings Street and Renfrew, and driving is the worst option — the neighbourhood parking fills, the lots queue, and getting out at 11pm takes a long time.

The fast route from downtown is the R5 RapidBus straight along Hastings Street, which stops at the grounds. Regular buses 14 and 16 cover the same corridor more slowly. From the Millennium Line, Renfrew station is about a 15-minute walk north. All of these are far more pleasant at closing time than a car.

How to plan the day

The best-value visit is a weekday evening after opening weekend: cheaper tiered admission, shorter ride lines, the midway lit up. Add a concert ticket only if you want that night’s billed act. The worst crush is Saturday afternoon on the Labour Day weekend. If you have children, arrive at 11am when it opens, do Playland first while the queues are short, break for the shows and barns in the heat of the afternoon, and leave before the evening crowd arrives.
