Vancouver Farmers Markets & Fish Markets: Addresses, Prices, What to Buy
Published 2026-07-13 · FanVancouver Travel Desk
Vancouver's markets are where the city actually eats: wild BC salmon sold off the boat, spot prawns that were swimming that morning, and berries picked in the Fraser Valley the day before. This guide covers every market worth your time — with addresses, opening days and the prices you should expect to pay in summer 2026.
Granville Island Public Market — the essential one
- Address: 1689 Johnston St (Granville Island). Open daily 9:00–18:00, year-round. Official site: granvilleisland.com.
- 50+ permanent stalls: seafood counters (Longliner Seafoods, Salmon Shop), butchers, Oyama Sausage, cheese shops, produce stands and the famous Lee's Donuts.
- Getting there: tiny Aquabus/False Creek ferry from downtown (~C$4–8), or bus 50 from Waterfront.
- Go before 11:00 on weekends — by noon the aisles are packed.
What seafood costs right now (typical summer 2026 counter prices)
| Item | Typical price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Wild sockeye salmon fillet | ~C$40–55 / kg | Season June–September; whole fish cheaper per kg |
| Spot prawns (live) | ~C$28–35 / lb | Short season, roughly May–June — a Vancouver ritual |
| Dungeness crab (live) | ~C$15–22 / lb | Year-round; markets will steam it for you |
| Halibut fillet | ~C$55–70 / kg | March–November |
| Wild BC ling cod | ~C$35–45 / kg | Great cheaper alternative to halibut |
| Smoked / candied salmon | ~C$70–90 / kg | Vacuum-packed — the classic edible souvenir, fine to fly with |
| Fresh oysters | ~C$2.50–4 each | Fanny Bay, Kusshi — ask what came in that day |
Prices move with the catch — treat these as a fair-price reference so you know when a counter is overcharging. Whole fish are always cheaper per kilo than fillets, and asking “what came in today?” gets you the best product at every counter.
Steveston Fisherman's Wharf — buy straight off the boats
- Address: Fisherman's Wharf, 3800 Bayview St, Steveston Village, Richmond (40 min from downtown; Canada Line to Brighouse then bus 401/407). Info: stevestonharbour.com.
- Working fishing boats sell direct at the dock, typically Fri–Sun from ~10:00 year-round (daily in peak season): whole sockeye, halibut, tuna, live spot prawns and sea urchin — usually 20–30 % below store prices, cash preferred.
- Make a day of it: Gulf of Georgia Cannery museum (~C$13), fish & chips at Pajo's on the wharf, and whale tours leave from the same village.
Farmers markets by day of the week
The city's outdoor farmers markets are run by Vancouver Farmers Markets (eatlocal.org) — check the site before going, exact dates shift each season.

Lonsdale Quay Market (North Vancouver)
- Address: 123 Carrie Cates Ct, North Vancouver — the SeaBus terminal is next door (12 min crossing from Waterfront, a mini harbour cruise for the price of a transit fare). Open daily ~9:00–19:00. lonsdalequay.com.
- Two floors of food stalls, a seafood counter, and a rooftop-level view of the downtown skyline; combine with the Shipyards District next door (Friday night market in summer).
Cooking your catch? Most Airbnbs and aparthotels have kitchens — grab a sockeye fillet, corn and berries and you have the definitive BC summer dinner for under C$25 a person. More food ideas in our Vancouver city guide.
