🛡️ Is Downtown safe?

By raw count, Downtown sits in one of the busiest parts of the city for police reports. That is mostly theft and mischief, because this is where the most people shop, work, go out and live. For a visitor the practical risks are cars, bags and phones: keep valuables out of sight and stay on busy, well-lit streets late at night.

Downtown (Central Business District): 10,200 reported crimes, down 8% on the year before; rank 1 of 24 by raw count, 32% of the city total. Theft from vehicles: 1,841; offences against a person: 971. Busiest block: the 700 block of West Georgia Street, home of the Pacific Centre mall (952 reports).
