The Vancouver Christmas Market at Jack Poole Plaza is the city's signature holiday event — a German-style market with wooden huts, glühwein, and the walk-through Christmas tree. It typically runs from mid-November until Christmas Eve, and tickets sell out on December weekends.

Expect the 2026 market to open around November 12 and close December 24, daily from about 11:30am to 9:30pm. Standard admission has run $15-18 for adults in recent years, with multi-visit passes ($22-25) paying for themselves on a second visit. Children under 6 are free. Book online — the gate queue on December weekends can be 45+ minutes.

- Raclette — melted cheese scraped over bread; the longest line in the market and worth it

Locals spread their festive visits across several smaller events: the Shipyards Christmas Market in North Vancouver (free entry, ice rink beside it), Canyon Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge (spectacular but pricey), the free VanDusen Festival of Lights alternative — strolling Trinity Street lights in East Van, and Bright Nights, which since 2025 has run at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds in Surrey rather than Stanley Park — the park’s miniature railway is out of commission.
