Alaska Cruises from Vancouver: Season, Prices, How to Book

Vancouver is the classic starting port for Alaska cruises: ships sail straight from downtown's Canada Place terminal into the protected, mountain-lined Inside Passage. The season runs late April to early October, with the best combination of weather, wildlife and prices in May–June and September.

The terminal

Canada Place Cruise Terminal — 999 Canada Place, right downtown at Waterfront Station (SkyTrain from YVR airport in 25 min, ~C$9–11). No other North American cruise port is this easy to reach.
Embarkation usually 11:00–15:00; US border pre-clearance happens inside the terminal, so bring the same documents as for a US flight.
Arrive in Vancouver at least one day before your cruise — a missed connection means a missed ship.

Booking and money tips

Book 6–12 months ahead for balcony cabins in July–August; last-minute deals appear in May and September departures.
Port side (left) cabins generally face the coast northbound; starboard southbound.
Budget for extras: shore excursions (whale watching in Juneau ~US$160, White Pass railway in Skagway ~US$140), gratuities ~US$16–18/day, drinks packages.
Pack layers + waterproof shell even in July: 10–18 °C on deck, colder near glaciers. Binoculars are the most-used item on board.
Non-US/Canadian citizens: the cruise enters US waters — ESTA/visa rules apply exactly as for flying to the USA.
