Alaska Cruises from Vancouver: Season, Prices, How to Book
Published 2026-07-13 ยท FanVancouver Travel Desk
Vancouver is the classic starting port for Alaska cruises: ships sail straight from downtown's Canada Place terminal into the protected, mountain-lined Inside Passage. The season runs late April to early October, with the best combination of weather, wildlife and prices in MayโJune and September.
The terminal
- Canada Place Cruise Terminal โ 999 Canada Place, right downtown at Waterfront Station (SkyTrain from YVR airport in 25 min, ~C$9โ11). No other North American cruise port is this easy to reach.
- Embarkation usually 11:00โ15:00; US border pre-clearance happens inside the terminal, so bring the same documents as for a US flight.
- Arrive in Vancouver at least one day before your cruise โ a missed connection means a missed ship.
Routes and typical prices
| Route | Itinerary | Typical price (check current) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round-trip Inside Passage (7 nights) | Vancouver โ Ketchikan โ Juneau โ Skagway โ glacier viewing โ Vancouver | Inside cabin from ~C$1,100โ1,600 pp; balcony ~C$2,000โ3,000 pp | No flight change needed โ best value |
| One-way Glacier Route (7 nights) | Vancouver โ Inside Passage โ Hubbard Glacier / Glacier Bay โ Whittier or Seward (Anchorage) | Similar per-night pricing + one-way flight home | Combine with a Denali land tour |

Cruise lines sailing from Vancouver
- Holland America and Princess โ the Alaska veterans, most departures, Glacier Bay permits.
- Celebrity, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean โ modern large ships.
- Disney Cruise Line โ family favourite, sells out earliest.
- Silversea, Seabourn โ luxury small ships.
Booking and money tips
- Book 6โ12 months ahead for balcony cabins in JulyโAugust; last-minute deals appear in May and September departures.
- Port side (left) cabins generally face the coast northbound; starboard southbound.
- Budget for extras: shore excursions (whale watching in Juneau ~US$160, White Pass railway in Skagway ~US$140), gratuities ~US$16โ18/day, drinks packages.
- Pack layers + waterproof shell even in July: 10โ18 ยฐC on deck, colder near glaciers. Binoculars are the most-used item on board.
- Non-US/Canadian citizens: the cruise enters US waters โ ESTA/visa rules apply exactly as for flying to the USA.
