Stanley Park โ the essential one
- 405-hectare rainforest peninsula wrapping downtown; free, open 24/7. Official info: vancouver.ca.
- Seawall โ 9 km flat loop (2 h by bike, rentals at Denman & Georgia ~C$10โ15/h); totem poles at Brockton Point; Prospect Point lookout.
- Vancouver Aquarium โ 845 Avison Way, daily ~10:00โ17:00, adult ~C$45โ50 (cheaper online).
- Horse-drawn park tours (MarโOct, ~C$65) and the free Second Beach outdoor pool area for sunsets.
Canyons and suspension bridges
- Capilano Suspension Bridge Park โ 3735 Capilano Rd, North Vancouver. The famous 137 m bridge 70 m above the river, plus Cliffwalk and Treetops. Adult ~C$66โ75 (seasonal), daily from 9:00 (until 21:00 in summer; winter โCanyon Lightsโ until late). Free shuttle from Canada Place.
- Lynn Canyon Park โ 3663 Park Rd, North Vancouver. The free alternative: its own suspension bridge, 30 Foot Pool swimming hole, forest trails. Open dawnโdusk; lynncanyon.ca.
- Grouse Mountain โ 6400 Nancy Greene Way. Skyride gondola, resident grizzly bears, adult day ticket ~C$75โ85; or hike the Grouse Grind (2.9 km straight up) and pay only ~C$20 down.
Playland amusement park
- Playland at the PNE โ 2901 E Hastings St. Canada's oldest amusement park with the legendary 1958 wooden coaster. Open ~MayโSeptember (daily in summer, weekends in shoulder season, typically 11:00โ18:00 or later); ride passes ~C$50โ65, cheaper online. During the PNE Fair (mid-AugโLabour Day) park entry includes concerts and shows.
Gastown Steam Clock & around
- Steam Clock โ corner of Water St & Cambie St, Gastown. The 1977 steam-powered clock whistles every 15 minutes and does a full chime on the hour โ free, best photographed in evening light. Walk 10 min east along Water St for the โGassy Jackโ site and Alexander St brick warehouses.
On the water: kayaking & boat trips
- Deep Cove Kayak Centre โ 2156 Banbury Rd, North Vancouver. Kayak/SUP rentals ~C$45โ65 per 2 h, calm fjord water, paddle to Twin Islands; combine with the short Quarry Rock hike and a honey doughnut at Honey's.
- Granville Island โ Vancouver Water Adventures rents kayaks/SUPs and runs jet-ski tours in False Creek; the tiny Aquabus rainbow ferries (~C$4โ8) are an attraction themselves.
- Jericho Beach โ Windsure Adventure Watersports: windsurf/SUP/skimboard lessons on English Bay.
- New Westminster paddlewheeler โ Paddlewheeler Riverboat Tours, 810 Quayside Dr (New Westminster Quay, 25 min by SkyTrain). Fraser River sightseeing and sunset dinner cruises on the MV Native, ~C$40โ90; walk Westminster Pier Park and the River Market after.
- False Creek Ferries and sunset dinner cruises from Coal Harbour (Harbour Cruises, ~C$50โ120) cover the downtown skyline from the water.
Peace Arch & other parks worth your time
- Peace Arch Provincial Park โ Hwy 99 at the US border (Surrey/Blaine). The white 1921 arch stands exactly on the boundary with one foot in each country; manicured international gardens, free, open dawnโdusk. You can walk the park without crossing the border โ carry ID and stay within park grounds.
- Queen Elizabeth Park โ 4600 Cambie St. The city's highest point, quarry gardens, and the Bloedel Conservatory dome (~C$9).
- VanDusen Botanical Garden โ 5251 Oak St, adult ~C$13โ16, hedge maze.
- Lighthouse Park (West Vancouver) โ old-growth firs and the Point Atkinson lighthouse, free.
- Pacific Spirit Regional Park (UBC) โ 55 km of free forest trails, plus the Museum of Anthropology nearby (reopened, adult ~C$25).
Classic tourist routes
- North Shore day: Capilano (or free Lynn Canyon) โ Grouse Mountain โ Deep Cove kayak + Quarry Rock.
- Sea-to-Sky day: Hwy 99 to Squamish (Sea-to-Sky Gondola, ~C$70) โ Whistler Village โ back via Porteau Cove sunset. See also camping stops along the route.
- Island escape: ferry to Victoria, onward to Tofino.
- On the water: whale watching, or an Alaska cruise from Canada Place.
