Vancouver International Airport (YVR) sits on Sea Island in Richmond, about 25 minutes from downtown on the Canada Line. An airport hotel is the right call for a red-eye, a flight before 7 a.m., a late landing with an early connection or a park-and-fly night. For a sightseeing trip it is the wrong base — you would ride the train twice a day.
Below: the hotels that actually work for a YVR night, how each one gets you to the terminal, and the transit fare trap that catches first-time visitors. Related: the YVR arrival guide, today's YVR delay outlook, YVR to the cruise terminal and YVR to BC Place.
Where to stay in Vancouver
Ships leave in the morning, so it is the night before that matters. The map shows live rates near the cruise terminals and downtown.
Hotels near YVR, compared
Shuttle hours are the hotels' published schedules, checked September 2026. They shrink off season and change without notice, so confirm the night you book.
| Hotel | To the terminal | Where | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fairmont Vancouver Airport In-Terminal Hotel | Inside the terminal — no shuttle | YVR, above the US departures check-in | Flights before 7 a.m. and long-haul arrivals; the only hotel inside YVR |
| Radisson Blu Vancouver Airport Hotel & Marina (formerly Pacific Gateway) | Free shuttle 24/7, about every 20 min | 3500 Cessna Dr, Richmond (Sea Island) | Staying on Sea Island without in-terminal prices; a marina setting |
| Westin Wall Centre Vancouver Airport | Free shuttle about 4:00–23:40, every 30 min | 3099 Corvette Way, Richmond | Business trips; a short walk to the Canada Line for downtown |

Four areas, four trade-offs
- Inside the terminal — Fairmont. You pay for walking to check-in in your own time. Worth it for a pre-dawn international flight, a family with small children or a 24-hour stopover when you want to sleep, not commute.
- Sea Island — Radisson Blu. Minutes from the terminal by a frequent shuttle and usually priced below the Fairmont. Little within walking distance, so plan to eat at the hotel.
- Bridgeport and the Canada Line — River Rock, Versante, Westin Wall Centre. One short train hop or shuttle ride out, and the same train line takes you downtown. The best all-rounders if you land in the afternoon and fly out the next day.
- Richmond city centre and beyond — Marriott, Hilton, Sandman, Best Western. Big-chain rooms, 24-hour shuttles at most of them and Richmond's restaurant scene nearby — see where to eat in Richmond and the seasonal Richmond Night Market. The value band, and the answer to "cheap hotels near YVR" for most travellers.
The AddFare, in one paragraph
Any SkyTrain trip that starts at YVR-Airport, Sea Island Centre or Templeton station costs the normal zone fare plus the $6.50 YVR AddFare — raised from $5 on July 1, 2026. It applies even to the six-minute ride to Bridgeport, so a Compass Card ride from the terminal to a Richmond hotel comes to about $9.35. Rides between the three Sea Island stations are free, and the trip to the airport has no AddFare. If your hotel runs a free shuttle, the shuttle wins for the first ride. Every fare product is in our Vancouver transit guide.
Pick by situation
- Flight before 7 a.m. The in-terminal Fairmont, or a hotel with a 24-hour shuttle. Ask the desk the night before how the early shuttle works — some run to a timetable, some on call.
- Landing after 10 p.m. Any 24-hour shuttle hotel. Call from the terminal as soon as you have your bags, and check tomorrow's outlook on YVR delays today.
- Cruise the next day. Usually better downtown: the ships leave from Canada Place, about 25 minutes from YVR by Canada Line plus a short walk. Start with hotels near Canada Place, and keep the airport hotel for a late landing only.
- Park and fly. Several airport-area hotels sell park-sleep-fly packages that bundle a night with days of parking. Compare the total with YVR's own parking before you book.
- Layover with a free afternoon. Leave bags at the hotel and ride the Canada Line to downtown, or eat your way along No. 3 Road in Richmond.
Price reality (2026)
Rates are in Canadian dollars with taxes and fees added at checkout — roughly 16–18% in Metro Vancouver — so compare totals. Airport rates tend to follow downtown demand — summer, long weekends and big events. The in-terminal hotel usually costs the most; Richmond chains away from Sea Island are where the lower prices sit.
FAQ
What is the closest hotel to Vancouver Airport?
The Fairmont Vancouver Airport In-Terminal Hotel, the only hotel inside YVR. It sits above the US departures check-in, a few minutes' walk from domestic and international check-in.
Which hotels near YVR have a free airport shuttle?
Most of them. The Radisson Blu Vancouver Airport, Hilton Vancouver Airport, Vancouver Airport Marriott and Sandman Signature list free round-the-clock shuttles; the Westin Wall Centre and Best Western Plus run from about 4 a.m. to 11:30-11:40 p.m. Hours change by season, so confirm when you book.
Where do hotel shuttles pick up at YVR?
Most hotel shuttles collect guests at the Level 3 Departures curb; some, such as the Hilton, use International Arrivals. Follow your hotel's instructions, and check YVR's courtesy shuttle page for the current list.
Do I pay the AddFare to reach an airport hotel by SkyTrain?
Yes, if you board at YVR-Airport, Sea Island Centre or Templeton: a $6.50 YVR AddFare is added to the zone fare, even for the six-minute ride to Bridgeport. Rides between those three Sea Island stations are free, and trips to the airport carry no AddFare.
Is it cheaper to stay in Richmond than at the airport?
Usually. Hotels along the Canada Line in Richmond tend to price below the in-terminal Fairmont and are a free shuttle or a few train stops from the terminal. Compare the total with taxes, not the headline rate.
Should I stay near the airport or downtown?
Near the airport for a flight before 7 a.m., a landing after 10 p.m. with an early connection, or a park-and-fly night. For two or more nights of sightseeing stay downtown: the Canada Line takes about 25 minutes each way.
