YVR Airport to BC Place: SkyTrain, Time & Fares

Locally verified in Vancouver by Alex · checked 2026-10-04

Flying into YVR for a Whitecaps match, Lions game, or big concert at BC Place? The clean path is Canada Line → walk (or one short Expo hop), not a surged Uber from the arrivals curb. This page is the door-to-door version with zone math, luggage notes, and what breaks on event nights.

Fast answer

  • Best default: Canada Line from the airport stations toward downtown → Yaletown–Roundhouse → 8–10 minute walk to the gates (or ride Expo one stop to Stadium–Chinatown if you want the shortest walk).
  • Time: ~35–50 minutes door to gate in normal conditions; pad 20+ minutes on sold-out nights and after late international arrivals.
  • Fare band: Canada Line from YVR includes the airport AddFare (about +C$6.50 on top of the usual zone fare — confirm on TransLink before you travel). Expect roughly mid-teens CAD one way adult stored-value, not a downtown 1-zone hop.
  • Taxi / rideshare: commonly C$35–55+ before tip to the stadium area; worse when Pacific Blvd / Beatty are closed for ingress.

Option 1: Canada Line (usually wins)

  1. Exit baggage claim and follow Canada Line / SkyTrain signs inside the terminal.
  2. Tap a contactless card or Compass product at the fare gate (visitor options change — verify on TransLink).
  3. Board toward downtown / Waterfront direction.
  4. For the walkable stadium approach, get off at Yaletown–Roundhouse and walk north toward Pacific Blvd / Beatty (Terry Fox Plaza / Gate A side is the usual drop-in).
  5. If platforms look crushed after the show, reverse the same path — trains beat surged cars.

With hard luggage for a same-day concert: elevators exist but queue. Soft bags are easier on the Canada Line than four hard-shells at 17:40 on a Friday.

Option 2: Taxi / rideshare

Worth it for mobility needs, three+ people splitting the bill, or when you land under an hour before gates open. Tell the driver Smithe / Beatty near Terry Fox Plaza — not “Pacific Boulevard front door” when streets are closed. After events, request the car two blocks away in Yaletown instead of at the gates.

Option 3: Hotel first, stadium second

If your flight is early and the event is late, drop bags at a walkable hotel then ride Expo from Stadium–Chinatown. See hotels near BC Place and the live map below on hotel pages.

Compass / zone tips (Alex)

  • Starting at YVR is not a normal downtown fare — budget the AddFare, then ride inside the paid area.
  • DayPass math only wins if you are stacking multiple trips the same day; a single airport→stadium hop is usually just the one-way product.
  • Screenshot the TransLink trip planner offline before you leave the terminal — cell data dies in baggage claim pockets of the building.

FAQ

How long is YVR to BC Place on SkyTrain?

Plan 35–50 minutes including the walk from Yaletown–Roundhouse or the short transfer to Stadium–Chinatown. Add buffer on event nights.

Which station is closest to BC Place?

Stadium–Chinatown (Expo Line) is the shortest walk. From YVR, Yaletown–Roundhouse on the Canada Line is the natural stop without changing trains.

Can I take luggage on Canada Line to a concert?

Yes for soft bags and one roller. Multiple hard cases are miserable at rush hour — taxi may be kinder if you are checking into a hotel the same hour.

Is Uber cheaper than SkyTrain from YVR?

Almost never for one person. Split four ways, Uber can compete — until surge after the encore.
